Appointment of Agent to Control Disposition of Remains

An "Appointment of Agent to Control Disposition of Remains" is a document recently authorized by the New York State legislature in which you appoint someone to make all decisions with regard to the final disposition of you bodily remains. The individual you appoint is called your "Agent." This document is quite flexible, and allows you, if you wish, to detail how and where your remains will be laid to rest, funeral arrangements, or anything else that may be important to you. What's particularly important about this document is that it allows you to appoint an agent who is not legally recognized as your "next of kin," such as a partner or close friend, to make these decisions. This is especially relevant to individuals who are single or members of a "nontraditional" family.

Fees:  The cost of an "Appointment of Agent to Control Disposition of Remains" is included in our Will and Trust packages, but if you choose not to get a complete package, we can prepare just an "Appointment of Agent to Control Disposition of Remains" for $100, and if you have a spouse or partner we will prepare one for that person as well for an additional fee of just $25.
